AMBO ("AMBO", the "App", "we", "us") is a mobile app that records your boxing sessions on your phone, analyses your movement, and gives you feedback and drills. This policy covers the App, the amboapp.ai website and the AMBO early access list. It explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
AMBO is provided by Mathe Wieme, an individual based in the United Arab Emirates, who is the controller of the personal data described here. Questions or requests: support@amboapp.ai.
When you join early access on amboapp.ai we collect your email address, the campaign or referral tag in the link you used (for example a TikTok link), and basic email delivery data (whether our emails were delivered, opened or clicked).
We also measure how the website is used: pages viewed, the site or link that brought you, your browser and device type, how much of the video plays and whether the signup form is sent. We use PostHog for this in its cookieless mode: nothing is stored on your device, and visitors are counted with a code that changes every day, so you are not recognised from one day to the next. This data is not linked to your email address. The website does not use cookies, advertising or otherwise.
When you record a session, the App captures video and audio of you training using your device's camera and microphone. The audio includes the sound of your strikes, which helps the App detect and time your punches.
When you take the AMBO challenge, the App films you throwing one combination using your device's camera (video only, no audio). Each try's video, the movement data from it, your score and its tip are uploaded to our cloud, to score your try, to keep your scores and to improve AMBO's scoring.
From each recording the App derives body-position ("pose" or "skeleton") data, on-device analysis results (such as punch counts and form metrics) and, in guided sessions, a timeline of the drills and cues that were called out.
To judge how well you keep your chin tucked, the App finds your face in the camera picture on your device and works out where your chin is. The face detection and face landmarks are processed on your device only and are not stored or uploaded; the App keeps just the position of your chin in each analysed frame, as part of the movement data. Your try's video itself, which shows your face, is uploaded as described above. We do not use face data to identify you, and we do not share it.
A login is required to use the App, except for your first AMBO challenge try: before you sign in, we assign an anonymous user identifier so that try can be uploaded and scored, and it becomes your account's identifier if you then sign in. You sign in with Apple or Google; we never receive your password. From that provider we receive your email address and, if you choose to share it, your name, and we assign a user identifier so your data can be stored and synced across sessions and devices. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email, in which case we receive a private relay address from Apple instead. We do not collect your phone number.
AMBO Premium is bought through the Apple App Store, and Apple processes the payment. We never receive your card or bank details. We receive information about your subscription, such as which plan you chose, whether you are in a free trial, renewal and expiry dates and transaction identifiers, so we can unlock Premium and help with billing questions.
If you turn on training reminders and allow notifications, we store the days and time you choose and a notification token for your device so we can send them. You can change or turn off reminders in the App, or turn off notifications for AMBO in your iPhone's Settings.
The App stores the answers and preferences you choose during setup and in Settings (such as your boxing experience, goal, how you want to box your assessment, sessions per week, stance and session settings) and a record that you accepted this policy, including the date and version. Your progress and settings are also kept on your phone so the App works offline.
We use PostHog, with its servers in the EU, to understand how the App is used and to find and fix problems. The App sends PostHog the screens you open and how long you stay on them, the buttons you tap, your setup answers and settings, your drills, sessions and AMBO challenge tries with their scores, sign-ins, purchases and subscription changes, crash reports and errors, and session replays: a recording of the App's screens as you use them. Session replays hide the camera picture and your session videos, and they hide anything you type. PostHog also works out your approximate location (city and country) from your IP address. Before you sign in, this data is tied to a random identifier on your phone; once you sign in, it is linked to your account, your name and your email address. We use it only for AMBO, not for advertising.
Our service providers process standard technical information needed to operate the App and website, such as app version, device type, network requests and timestamps.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal data.
AMBO's movement analysis runs on your phone. Uploading your recordings and derived data to our cloud is what enables storage, sync and the model-improvement use described above.
We use service providers to host and process data on our behalf:
We share data with service providers only as needed to run AMBO, and we may disclose data where required by law.
We are based in the United Arab Emirates, and our service providers may store and process your data in other countries, including the United States. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on our providers' safeguards for protecting it.
We keep App recordings and derived data for as long as needed to provide the App and to develop and improve our models, unless you ask us to delete them. Session replays are kept for 30 days; other App usage data and crash reports are kept as long as needed to understand and improve the App, unless you ask us to delete them. We keep your early access email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If AMBO does not launch, we delete the list.
You can delete your account in the App (Settings, Delete account; in the AMBO challenge, the settings icon on its home screen once you're signed in). We then delete your account and the data linked to it, except anything we must keep by law. Your App usage data in PostHog is not deleted automatically: email us and we will delete it. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings.
You can unsubscribe from emails with the link in any email. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or to stop using it to improve our models, by emailing support@amboapp.ai. Please contact us from the email address linked to your account or signup so we can find your data.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), the EU/UK GDPR, or the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honour these rights where they apply to you. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including the security features of our cloud providers, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
AMBO is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used AMBO, contact us and we will delete the data.
We may update this policy and will change the date at the top when we do. If we make a material change to how we handle App data, we will ask you to review and accept the updated policy in the App before you continue recording.
